Notable McMinnville vineyards

Meredith Mitchell Vineyard: Owned by Susan Meredith and Frank Mitchell, this vineyard southwest of the city of McMinnville was planted in 1988 and has expanded to 25 acres over the years. Of all the vineyards on this list. Meredith Mitchell may be one of the least known, though not by top winemakers. Ken Wright swears by the fruit from here and produces a vineyard-designated Pinot Noir most years. "The wines tend to be fairly well structured," Wright said of Meredith Mitchell fruit. "You could say that in our cellar, they represent something that would be very, very age-worthy. The combination of tannin and acid creates a lot of structure. They are not immediately generous. They are not ebullient, smash-mouth, in-your-face wines. They take time to mature and become agreeable. I like them quite a bit. They're very distinctive."
