Covey Run

On Oct. 8, Managing Editor Eric Degerman caught up with Covey Run winemaker Kate Michaud while she looked over her hanging crop of Riesling at Art den Hoed's eponymous 250-acre vineyard overlooking Sunnyside, Wash., in the Yakima Valley. Michaud is in the middle of her second crush as the head winemaker at Covey Run in Zillah. In 2007, she resigned as assistant winemaker at Walla Walla's Canoe Ridge Vineyard to succeed Kerry Norton at Covey Run. Norton was promoted to replace winemaking great David Lake at Columbia Winery. Earlier this year, both wineries were sold by Constellation Brands to Ascentia Wine Estates in California.
